“Shaken, not stirred” is a catchphrase of Ian Fleming’s fictional British Secret Service agent James Bond and describes his preference for the preparation of his martini cocktail. The phrase first appeared in Fleming’s 1956 book and has been used in most of the Bond movies ever since. Although James Bond has a very famous cocktail, he would not drink while driving his Aston Martin.

Impairment is not reliant upon the type of alcohol consumed, rather the number of drinks over a certain period of time. Despite myths and misconceptions, coffee, a cold shower, or exercise will not make a person soberer. According to the United States Department of Transportation, every 51 minutes in America, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash. That equates to 27 people every day. The CDC states that about one in three traffic deaths in the United States involves a drunk driver.

We would all like to have James Bond’s lifestyle but it never pays to drink and drive. If you will be drinking, please designate a sober driver before going out. Even Bond would approve!

As Covid-19 restrictions are loosened throughout the state, Louisiana residents are happy to resume their normal activities. Since most people have been on lockdown for over a year, the removal of these restrictions will give people reason to let their hair down and have fun. When doing so, it is very important to designate a driver or have the phone number for a taxi/rideshare service.

Alcohol is a substance that reduces the function of the brain, impairing thinking, reasoning, and muscle coordination. All these abilities are essential to operating a vehicle safely. Even a small amount of alcohol can affect driving ability.

Driving after drinking is deadly but it still continues to. If you drive while impaired, you could get arrested or be involved in a traffic crash that causes serious injury or death. Once arrested for driving under the influence, the Police will bring you to a whole new set of bars.
