According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2017, there were 10,076 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in the United States. Almost 57 percent of young adults ages 18 to 34 killed in crashes were completely unrestrained. 59 percent of pickup truck occupants killed were not buckled up.
To ensure that motorists are wearing their seat belts, Causeway police will be stepping up enforcement and take part in the Click It or Ticket program via a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. These grants, funded by Louisiana and federal tax revenues, allow Causeway Police to enhance the safety of motorists on both the Causeway and the Huey P. Long Bridges.
The safest choice you can make as a driver or passenger is to buckle up. Every trip, every time, buckle up.

Causeway’s new shoulders, railings taking shape

Lake Pontchartrain Causeway commuters are now seeing tangible evidence of the roughly $100 million effort to add sections of shoulder to the spans and beef up the railing on the southbound bridge.
