Tolls are only collected on the North Shore (Mandeville side of lake)
The toll fare schedule is as follows:
The electronic toll collection system allows motorists the ease of not having to stop and pay the tolls. It
gathers identification data from moving vehicles by way of toll tags and transfers that data to a computerized
management system.
For each trip on the Causeway, the computer deducts a credit against prepaid toll fares. When the prepaid account
reaches a minimum balance, a caution light at the toll lane notifies cash patrons that their account balance is low
and a payment is required. (Patron's accounts set up on charge cards are replenished automatically.)
The toll tags are attached to the bottom left corner of the vehicle's windshield with velcro. The tag reader located in
the toll lane recognizes the tag number and deducts the proper amount.
1 - Discount - Available for passenger vehicles under 7 feet in height.
2 - Full Fare - Available for all remaining vehicle classes.
3 - Recreational - Available for recreational vehicles.
There are three types of toll tag accounts:
Discount Toll Tags
$2 per round trip
Discount toll tags are available for passenger vehicles under 7 feet in height. This tag allows the patron to cross for
$2.00 per trip.
The cost for this tag package is $52.50. This amount includes of a $12.50 refundable tag deposit and $40 that is applied
to your account.
Full Fare Tags
These tags are available for all other classes of vehicles. This tag provides the convenience of not having to stop and
pay the cash toll, and also enables you to use the "tag only" lanes.
Rates for these vehicles are determined by the number of axles and height of the vehicle.
For example: A truck 2 axles over 7 feet in height would pay $6.00. The total cost for this tag would be 12 trips at $6.00
plus a $12.50 refundable deposit and would total $84.50.
Recreational Tags
Rates for vehicles such as campers, motor homes, horse trailers, etc. are generally determined by the number of axles
and height of the vehicle.
Making Payments
There are three options available when making a payment on your account.
1. You may come to the north or south shore Commuter Sales Offices and apply money to your account by either cash,
check, money order, or credit card ( Visa, Master Card, and Discover, American Express ).
2. The most convenient payment method is for you to authorize G.N.O.E.C. to automatically bill your credit card when
your account reaches the stipulated low balance. To benefit from this automatic payment method, you must first sign
an authorization form containing your credit card information.
3. You can also make check payments from your vehicle. When using any of the following payment methods, please:
(1) Write your account number or tag number on the check front.
(2) Make check payable to: G.N.O.E.C.
3a. You may drop off check payments to a north shore toll collector in the Tag/Cash lanes only. Allow at least one working
day for posting to your account. Please note that checks will not be accepted in either of the Tag Only lanes.
3b. When traveling north bound, there is a Commuter Sales Drop Box located at the left side of the south-most parking
lot on the south shore.
The Commuter Sales Office has a 24-hour account information line to assist you in monitoring your account balance.
Using a touch-tone phone, dial (504) 835-3949 then enter your account or tag number to receive your current balance.
Toll Plaza Rules
1. The speed limit when passing through the north toll plaza, where tolls are collected, is 5 mph. The south plaza speed
limit, where tolls are not collected, is 35 mph.
2. For safety reasons, all vehicles must come to a complete stop at the toll booths between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monitoring
of drivers and vehicles prior to entering the bridges will help insure your safety while crossing the Causeway.
3. Your toll tag must be mounted on the lower left corner of the windshield using the provided velcro. A toll tag held in the
hand of the driver may not be properly read by the system, therefore, is not allowed.
4. The yellow "Low Bal" (low balance) light at the toll booth will illuminate when the balance of your account is low. On a
commuter account, it will illuminate when you have $10 or less remaining. On a full-fare account, it will illuminate when
you have $12 or less remaining.
The G.N.O.E.C. is committed to minimizing the time required to move through the toll plazas however, safety must
remain paramount.
