Causeway Division
What to do if your vehicle breaks down and you are unable to make it to a crossover.
The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is 24 miles long and travels through Jefferson and St. Tammany Parishes. The Causeway Police Department provides around the clock law enforcement and motorist aid on the Causeway. The officers assigned to this division are charged with enforcing state and local laws.

With a daily traffic flow of approximately 30,000 vehicles and no shoulders on the Causeway, the police department uses proactive enforcement and public education to help make a trip across the Causeway safe. The police department uses marked, semi-marked, and un-marked police units, Radar Enforcement and with the aid of the Louisiana State Police now implement Aerial Speed Enfrcement as part of its proactive patrols.

Special response vehicles are located on the Causeway to assist the police department with removing people from lake Pontchartrain.

Police vehicles are equipped with mobile video recording equipment for the safety of the motoring public, the officers and to aid in the prosecution of criminal offenses
Huey P. Long Division
The Huey P. Long Bridge is two miles in length and crosses the Mississippi River in Jefferson Parish. Since 1987,the Causeway Police Department has provided law enforcement and motorist aid services to motorists traveling between the Eastbank and Westbank of Jefferson Parish, 5 days a week (Monday - Friday ) between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The Louisiana State Police assume enforcement responsibilities during the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Approximately 50,000 vehicles use the Huey P. Long Bridge daily.

All Police vehicles are equipped with mobile video recording equipment for the safety of the motoring public, the officers and to aid in the prosecution of criminal offenses.
