 GNOEC POLICE MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission’s Causeway Police Department is to promote the Commission’s highway safety enforcement initiatives, protect the integrity of property under the Commission’s control and promote safe and efficient vehicular travel upon the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway and other highways and bridges within the jurisdiction of the department. Causeway Police officers shall provide service with integrity and fairness.

GNOEC POLICE SERVICES

The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is 24 miles long and travels through Jefferson and St. Tammany Parishes. The Causeway Police Department provides around the clock law enforcement and motorist aid on the Causeway Bridge. Annually, the GNOEC responds to over 3,000 breakdowns/calls for assistance from motorists. Our average response time is less than 4 minutes. With a daily traffic flow of approximately 40,000 vehicles, the police department uses proactive enforcement and public education to help make a trip across the Causeway safe.

The police department uses marked, semi-marked, and unmarked police units, radar enforcement and, with the aid of the Louisiana State Police, periodically implements Aerial Speed Enforcement as part of its proactive patrols. Special response vehicles are located on the Causeway Bridge to assist the police department with rescues. Police vehicles are equipped with mobile video recording equipment for the safety of the motoring public, the officers and to aid in the prosecution of criminal offenses.
